Andrew B. Hall

Professor of Political Economy, Stanford GSB

Andrew B. Hall is the Davies Family Professor of Political Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. He runs the Free Systems research lab, which is housed across the Hoover Institution and Stanford GSB. They focus on understanding how to preserve human liberty in an increasingly algorithmic world. They build in public, running governance experiments, stress-testing frontier AI models, and prototyping tools to help ordinary people keep a real say in how AI and online platforms are governed.

At the GSB, Hall teaches courses on how organizations can build trust in a divided world, and on the future of democracy and tech governance. Hall serves as an advisor to Meta Platforms, Inc and the a16z crypto research group. He received his BA in Economics and Classics from Stanford University, and his AM in Statistics and PhD in Political Science from Harvard University.
