Botao ‘Amber’ Hu is a Social Computing researcher and Experiential Futures designer. He is a PhD candidate in the Human Centred Computing group at the University of Oxford's Department of Computer Science.

His research focuses on Protocoling Distributed Intelligence — specifically through Wild Agents, Agent Phenomenology, and Institutions of Agents — encompassing Machine Behavior, Protocol Studies, Artificial Life, Collective Intelligence, Trust Systems, Science Fiction Science, and Mechanistic Interpretability.

He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from Tsinghua University and a master's degree in computer science with an AI concentration from Stanford University.
