Eric Alston

Eric Alston is an Assistant Professor at the University of Wyoming College of Law (August 2026). Eric was previously a Scholar in Residence in the Finance Division at CU Boulder from 2016-2026.

Eric’s research is grounded in the fields of law and economics and institutional and organizational analysis, which he applies to research questions in the development of rights along frontiers, the design and implementation of constitutions, and digital governance with a particular focus on distributed networks.

Alston’s publications include constitutional design studies, the emergence of economic institutions in the frontier US West, and digital governance questions ranging from distributed blockchain networks to encryption to digital constitutionalism more broadly. His current grant work involves a National Science Foundation project exploring the development of Colorado given land entry records and census data, and a Templeton World Charity Foundation project examining quantitative measures of digital currency market development and manipulation.

Eric also consults in governance design and compliance in a variety of digital governance contexts ranging from distributed networks to data stewardship and attribution.
