
Igor Calzada
Full Professor, University of the Basque Country
Prof. Igor Calzada is a Full Professor at the University of the Basque Country and Ikerbasque, accredited in Interdisciplinarity (ANECA) and Social Sciences and Humanities (Unibasq).
Over more than 25 years he has held posts at Cardiff University's WISERD Civil Society ESRC Centre, the University of Oxford's Future of Cities and Urban Transformations ESRC programmes, and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, and he served as senior advisor to UN-Habitat's People-Centred Smart Cities programme.
He was a Fulbright Scholar in California in 2022–23 and is a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales, the Regional Studies Association, and a former Marie Curie fellow. His research spans digital citizenship regimes, data ecosystems and AI, and city-regional governance; he has published 13 books, 64 peer-reviewed articles, and 28 policy reports.
